What a year! One of the first proverbial casualties of the pandemic was a truncated season for Sarasota’s Black Tie community. But even with that shorter time frame, Sarasota philanthropists lived it up and made a real difference from January to March.
The Sarasota Ballet and Sarasota Memorial Hospital Foundation respectively led off strong with fundraisers in January. Marie Selby Botanical Gardens delved into its esoteric side with a Salvador Dalí-themed gala in February and SPARCC celebrated 40 years with a fashion show that took audiences through decades of styles. Michael Kors even made an appearance at CAN Community Health’s Red Ribbon Gala.
The Asolo Repertory Theatre unknowingly closed out the season with its lively Bollywood Ball that had the entire room up on its feet dancing.
Who can say what’s next? We certainly hope we’ll be able to cover a healthy and vibrant Black Tie season soon.
