Lonnie Brown is a senior guard on the Braden River High boys basketball team. He had 31 points and 10 rebounds in the team's senior night 71-48 home win against Venice High Feb. 1.

When did you start playing basketball?

Five years ago. I played football before that, but a bunch of my friends played basketball and I wanted to give it a shot.

What is the appeal to you?

I just have a love for the game as a whole. I love the atmosphere. I love the feeling of making a huge block.

What is your best skill?

I think it is my defense, in general. And being able to attack the rim.

What is your favorite memory?

My sophomore year, I got my first dunk when I was playing with my AAU team (the Florida Tarheels). It was a simple one-hander, but it was nice.

What led to your 31-point breakout?

I had a lot of help from my guards, who found me and gave me open looks. Drevian (Mays, senior), Kamron (Brooks, junior), Karmani (Gregory, freshman), Andre (Nunez, senior), all those guys.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Overcoming adversity. When something bad happens or I am in a tough spot, I used to have a hard time letting it go. I have gotten better at that as I got older.

What is your dream vacation?

Going to Hawaii. I just think it looks nice out there. I want to check it out.

What is your favorite subject?

History. I like learning about the government and all that stuff.

What is your biggest fear?

Heights. I hate getting on airplanes the most.

What is the best advice you have received?

Don't be afraid to take risks. Don't have safety nets. If you aim for 'Plan B,' you won't hit 'Plan A.'

Finish this sentence: "Lonnie Brown is ... "

... A well-rounded player. My coach (Jason Mickan) always says I can rebound, play defense and score.
