Longboat Key Democratic Club holds December meeting

The club wrapped up the calendar year with a discussion from a former intelligence community official.

The Longboat Key Democratic Club held its final meeting of the calendar year on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at the Sarasota Yacht Club. 

After Bob Gary went through club business, Jay Rixse, the club's speaker for the month, went through a history of the CIA and its functions in the U.S. Rixse is a former senior official in the Defense Department and the CIA. He focused on the history of intelligence and its role today in what he says is an increasingly polarized world.

After Rixse's presentation, club members dined and chatted together before reconvening for a Q&A session with Rixse. The next meeting of the Longboat Key Democratic Club will be at 11:30 on Jan. 7 at the Sarasota Yacht Club.
