There were plenty of events to keep us busy this summer — so let's review.

T’was the first week of season and all through the house, not an outfit was wrinkled, not even a blouse.

The high heels were lined in the closet with care, in hopes that photographers would capture them sans glare.

I’ll stop right there because my creativity can only go so far, but you get it. It’s season, people. And you know what that means.

Your calendars are filling up, your closet is getting a fresh look and you’re mentally preparing for all the schmoozing you’re about to do for the next six months (and dreaming of all the amazing catered meals you’re about to chow down on, of course).

But before you step into this new season, let’s take a walk down memory lane and reflect on the events we went to this summer. The snowbirds were gone and most of us were hiding in our air-conditioned spaces, but there were still ample events that brought people out and about this summer.

It all started with Asolo Repertory Theatre’s Men Who Cook and Brew on May 21 at Mattison’s Bayside at Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall. The stars of the show were the 13 local celebrity chefs who competed for best dish. But the unsung heroes were the designers in the table decor contest. From an Eiffel Tower centerpiece to candelabras filled with roses, everyone impressed.

Kari Krepop, a member of Girl Scout Troop #592, and Allison Carchio, a member of Girl Scout Troop #198, were among the scout members who participated in the Salute the Runway fashion show July 13 at Hyatt Regency Sarasota.

Another big one was the Salute the Runway fashion show July 13 at Hyatt Regency Sarasota. Goodwill Manasota partnered with Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida for another heartwarming luncheon, and this year the models were local women veterans who were each paired with a Girl Scout. Listening to the young girls interview the vets made us melt and helped us realize how powerful women are (*insert clapping emoji here*).

There were several other events that captured our attention this summer, but one that’s notable for its rookie status was the Grey Matters Luncheon on Sept. 22 at Sarasota Yacht Club. This was the Roskamp Institute’s inaugural symposium on Alzheimer’s disease, and it sold out at 160 guests. It also raised $82,000 for neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders and addictions research.

What's up next? You'll have to look at our social calendar to stay in the know.

Gear up, social butterflies — the Black Tie section is back.
