OCT. 24

POWER TO THE PEOPLE, PART I

12:52 a.m., 4400 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive

Disturbance: A resident reported a late-night hissing/whistling noise in the area. The responding officer found a Florida Power and Light employee investigating a reported power outage in the same area. The FPL worker theorized the sound might be related to the outage. The officer relayed the information to dispatchers for the purpose of informing other callers.

POWER TO THE PEOPLE, PART II

9:17 a.m., 600 block of Companion Way

Public service: An officer responded to a report of “steam” coming from an open manhole on Companion Way. The hole was ultimately determined to be part of an electrical grid junction box. Florida Power and Light was notified, and a worker determined the report of “steam” was a result of the box overheating. Repairs were made.

TIMMMM-BERRRRR

6:09 p.m., 500 block of Golf Links Lane

Public service: An officer assisted Longboat Key Fire-Rescue in removing a tree that was across the roadway. The officer and firefighters made the road passable and notified the town’s Public Works Department about the remainder of the fallen tree.

 

OCT. 26

MAILBOX DOWN

9:34 a.m., 600 block of Russell Street

Property damage: A property manager called police to report damage to a roadside mailbox. The officer found the mailbox, which contained mail, on the ground with a broken wooden base. The officer reported it could not be determined if the mailbox had been hit by a vehicle or damaged by other means.

 

OCT. 26

ALL NIGHT LONG

1:11 p.m., 3500 block of Fair Oaks Lane

Noise complaint: A resident notified police of a neighbor’s pool pump that had been running all night and throughout the subsequent morning. The investigating officer reported being able to hear the pump running from the street when he pulled up. The resident told police the owner had been contacted, and that a repair technician was called to inspect the equipment for malfunction.
