Cami Leavitt and her supporters celebrated five years of fashion and fun with her boutique, Camilyn Beth, on April 22. The anniversary celebration took place at the downtown studio and gave eventgoers the chance to pose by the floral photo wall and shop the latest collection with a 15% off sale. Popup dessert cart À La Mode Macaron made the event extra sweet by serving honey lavender, s’mores and raspberry cheesecake macaron ice cream sandwiches — so sweet, in fact, that they sold out in 20 minutes. “I feel so blessed to have come this far and look forward to the future,” Leavitt says. “Cheers to five years!”
Suncoast Boat Show 2017 kicked off April 21 with a glamorous VIP Yacht Hop at Marina Jack. Special guests tipped their flutes in the Champagne fountain before perusing the hundreds of boats available for sale from many of the Suncoast’s top boat dealers. Eventgoers also enjoyed light bites, live music and a view of the sunset on Sarasota Bay. The show, which is in its 35th year, is one of several large-scale boat shows organized annually by Show Management. It includes a weekend of not only boat shopping, but other events like adult and youth fishing clinics.
Michael’s On East Co-proprietors Michael Klauber and Philip Mancini accepted a proclamation from Mayor Willie Shaw during a City Commission meeting April 17 at City Hall. Shaw proclaimed the date Michael’s On East Day in anticipation of the establishment’s 30th anniversary on April 27. We often joke that Michael’s On East is our second home during season, and quite honestly, we’ve considering setting up a tent more than once. The Black Tie section of the Observer has been around nearly as long as Michael’s has, so we’ve had a firsthand look at the restaurant and event venue’s growth over the past 30 years. Making moves … Mary Anne Servian, former managing director at the Sarasota Ballet, is now CEO of Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida. If that means a discount on cookies, we might start eyeing that position … Selah Vie soiree … Selah Freedom’s resale store, Selah Vie, celebrated its one-year anniversary April 20 at its Bradenton location. Guests enjoyed snacks, refreshments and shopping the boutique's collection of preloved clothing, accessories and furniture. Raffle tickets were also sold for several hotel stays, paintings and gift cards. 100% of the proceeds went to Selah Freedom's programs and other efforts to end sex trafficking domestically …
You reap what you sow … Junior League of Sarasota new members worked on their new member project April 22, a unique outdoor space at Girls Inc. of Sarasota County. Every year, the new member class brainstorms a new member project after identifying a particular need of one of Sarasota's many nonprofits. The 2016-2017 class chose to transform an empty outdoor space into a sensory garden for Girls Inc. The class split into four groups, each headed by project leaders, and designed different areas of the space that target different senses. This included an herb garden, music wall, hopscotch/movement area and water play area. Each group did about15-25 hours of prep work, and put it all together on April 22 (in time for Earth Day!). "The new member class hopes the sensory garden will provide the girls a safe and therapeutic way to stimulate their senses and discover the world around them," says Jennifer Kelly.
