Student-aged history buffs: East County is opening an exhibit designed especially for you.

A new Nature Center at Rye Preserve, located at 905 Rye Wilderness Trail, will feature a range of exhibits that highlight historical happenings in East County during the 19th and 20th centuries, a press release said.

The new attraction, which opens at 9 a.m. Jan. 9, will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for the public, which will include light refreshments and other activities, Education and Volunteer Division Manager Melissa Nell said.

Attendees can tour the center and participate in the hands-on exhibits peppered throughout East County's nature- and history-based attraction.

“Adults will enjoy the history displays and the natural beauty of Rye Preserve," Nell said. "There’s really something for everyone at Rye. If people haven’t visited before, this event is the perfect opportunity.”
