Carl Hiaasen, a frequent critic of state lawmakers and author of more than 25 books, will speak to local political junkies during a Sarasota Tiger Bay Club meeting next month.

On March 16, the group will host the Miami Herald columnist, who over the last three decades has created vibrant characters ranging from a conch-fritter addicted Capuchin monkey to a roadkill-eating former governor. The annual luncheon costs $70 and will likely sell out, said Tiger Bay Club Executive Director Kim Noyes.

Said Noyes: "We're so thrilled about Carl Hiaasen coming to town for our luncheon - the day after the Florida primary!"

Hiaasen's most recent young adult book, Skink - No Surrender, was published in September 2014, while the critically-acclaimed Bad Monkey was released the previous year. Hiaasen will be signing books following the event.

The luncheon will begin with a check-in period and networking at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 16, at Michael's on East. Click here for more information, or contact Noyes at 925-2970.
