Forty students from four Sarasota County high schools were applauded for being nominated the "Most Improved" among their peers.
Students and their parents were honored with a luncheon Thursday, April 28 at Michael's On East. Some of the students being honored at the luncheon have overcome illness, homelessness and pregnancy.
Sarasota County Schools Superintendent Lori White congratulated students on their accomplishment and overcoming challenges.
“I’m telling you, you have done something that will serve you as well as any of the other academic accolades by understanding and not letting a challenge or a struggle get in the way of your success,” White said. “That takes something inside of you that is hard to teach.”
