A popular Englewood pizza restaurant will soon open in Sarasota, filling in the vacant Main Street storefront once filled by Whiteberry.

Flatbread on Main, located at 1473 Main St., is about a week away from opening, according to owner Glenn Comeau. In addition to artisan pizzas, the restaurant also offers local craft beer and wines from around the world — one of several new bars in the area focusing on similar products.

The restaurant is a hit in Englewood, earning a distinction as one of the top-rated pizzerias in southwest Florida on TripAdvisor.com. Although the first location is just two years old, it’s been successful enough to open a second branch — and Comeau has some advance knowledge that Sarasota might be a favorable environment.

“We had customers that came to Englewood from Sarasota and demanded we open a restaurant there,” Comeau said. “They didn’t want to have to keep driving an hour for their pizza.”

Originally from the Boston area, Comeau said he was previously unfamiliar with the Sarasota area. After a visit in August, though, he and his wife were quickly won over — and he’s eagerly anticipating his business’ opening date.

“We started poking around and fell in love with the downtown area,” Comeau said. “We’re just really excited about coming to Sarasota.”
