Ponytails are an ever-changing hairstyle. They can morph to suit a year’s trends. Take last year for example: 2013 was all about the sleek ponytail. Throughout its stylistic evolution, one thing about the go-to 'do remains certain: it's a style that's never going to be "out."

So it comes as no surprise that many 2014 trends are built upon the ponytail. One interpretation in particular stands out as on-trend: the low ponytail.

Are you working the business-casual look for the board meeting this week? Try a chic, sporty ponytail (and by sporty, I don't mean messy, wet hair). This sleek finish is the epitome of chic when incorporated into a low ponytail and styled accordingly. When slicked back or styled with a center part, the sleek, low ponytail, accompanied by minimal accessories and daring, smoky eyes becomes a key look for summer evenings.

If sporty isn’t your style, try opting for a textured, messy low pony. This romantic Boho finish is perfect for second-day waves. You can play it safe with a center part, or take it to the extreme with a deep side part. Play it up by throwing in a big soft braid, and you're ready to pull out the linen skirts and flower crowns. It's sophisticated, yet soft and utterly feminine.
