What do you get when you ask 29 unique Sarasota artists to design runway-worthy outfits using any materials they want? The answer is iconcept, Art Center Sarasota’s fourth annual fashion show and fundraiser. This year’s iconcept artists are a unique blend of bursting creativity, unorthodox materials and worlds of inspiration. Like an engrossing piece of artwork, this year’s iconcept show has a push and pull, a dynamic balance that promises to keep the audience enthralled and on the edge of their seat.

The youngest iconcept designer ever, Willow Livengood (age 14), will send her recycled t-shirt wedding dress down the runway, while established Sarasota architect Carl Abbott will showcase “Wave 3-Flora,” his and designer Andrea Mihalyffy’s third iconcept design and their continued exploration of folding, industrial materials, texture, color and light.

Some artists, such as designer Lisa Berger, were inspired by everyday life for their runway designs. Berger realized that the plastic sleeves from newspapers could be woven into a tweed material which she used to make a Chanel-inspired jacket as well as a matching dress. Pamela Sumner was inspired by an artist's everyday life while sharpening pencils in her studio. From the pencil shavings she created this year’s design, aptly named “Pencil Shaving.” Christina Michiels’ colorful and partially edible candy dress will balance with Stephanie Peters’ bubble-wrap tutu creation, while plastic bags will be seen woven in a tailored style and billowing like a Victorian creation. Color and colorless, organic and industrial, the push and pull of materials, personalities, and style in this year’s iconcept show create a world of creativity, passion, and fashion that will leave you energized and wanting more.

The fourth annual iconcept fashion show at Art Center Sarasota takes place this Friday, March 30, from 7 to 10 p.m. To celebrate the creative materials being used in what is rumored to be the best iconcept yet, Art Center Sarasota and iconcept Creative Director Cat Pennenga are giving away two iconcept tickets. To win the tickets "like" the iconcept facebook page. Then carefully study the photo montage at the top of this article, list as many materials as you can guess for each photo and e-mail your answers to [email protected]. The people who correctly guess the greatest number of materials will be entered into a random drawing for the two tickets. All entries must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28.
