Lakewood Ranch-based ShelterBox USA today hosted a special outreach event today as part of its Big Green Box Week, an annual event to raise awareness about ShelterBox and its mission.

Representatives of ShelterBox were on site at the Lakewood Ranch Information Center on University Parkway to meet with the public.

“We deliver aid all around the world, but many people in our own community are not familiar with ShelterBox," said  Emily Sperling, ShelterBox USA president. “ We're pleased to partner with Lakewood Ranch, which will help raise awareness about our work.”

Big Green Box Week is designed to promote the importance of taking humanitarian action following natural and other disasters. Internationally, ShelterBox immediately responds to earthquakes, floods and other natural disasters to provide "shelter, warmth and dignity" to disaster victims.

In the United States, ShelterBox USA celebrates the idea that individuals, businesses, schools, civic and other groups can help make a global impact by supporting ShelterBox’s mission of providing shelter, warmth and dignity to disaster survivors worldwide.
