LAKEWOOD RANCH — The Windsor of Lakewood Ranch, an assisted-living facility, announces the beginning of construction on a 40-residence dementia and memory care facility in July.

Reflections at The Windsor of Lakewood Ranch will sit on 2.5 acres adjacent to the existing Windsor facility. Reflection’s 35,000-square-foot single-story building will complement the architectural style of the existing Windsor. Construction for the center will cost $7 million. It should be complete by the first quarter of 2012.

The 40-residence building will be separated into two neighborhoods. Both will feature an open-air atrium and patio with seating as well as dining rooms and cafés, activities areas, living rooms, art studios, media rooms and other areas specifically designed for those with dementia. All suites are private with and handicap-accessible bathroom. A conference room in the main corridor will serve as a meeting area for various Alzheimer’s support groups and other community activities.

“This is a much needed and welcome addition to Lakewood Ranch,” said LWR Commercial Realty president Brian Kennelly, “The Windsor is already such a widely known and well regarded organization, we think this new facility will make a great addition to the many other world class medical facilities in this area.”

“We have taken great effort to provide a desirable environment for those affected by dementia,” said Pete Russell, developer and co-owner of Reflections. “Residents will be secure, but not feel confined. Family members will enjoy visits to our calm and welcoming environment. Our newest residences in other parts of Florida now include memory care suites. We have learned from our success what makes our residents and families happy, and are bringing this formula to Lakewood Ranch.”

The Windsor campus at Lakewood Ranch is a joint effort between Sarasota residents Pete Russell and his wife, Cathy Layton, and Gail and Tim Buchanan, who oversees the management of all Windsor facilities. Both Russell and Buchanan each have more than 20 years in the senior care market.

“I have always had a passion for service, and this passion is the cornerstone of our management and staff,” Buchanan said.

The local development team consists of Tom Wessel Construction Company and AM Engineering.
