+ Third-grader hosts bake sale
Nine year-old Piper Hansen, daughter of musician “Koko” Ray Hansen and Diana Bogan, of Lakewood Ranch, organized a Share Our Strength Great American Bake Sale event from May 21 at the Anna Maria Island Community Center.

Share Our Strength’s Great American Bake Sale is a national campaign that mobilizes Americans to hold a community bake sale to end childhood hunger. Piper raised $166 at the bake sale and an additional $76 in online donations made to her team page, “Piper’s Island Sweets.” Share Our Strength will use the money to end childhood hunger in America. Hansen learned about community service in her third-grade class at Wakeland Elementary.

“I decided to organize my own Great American Bake Sale event because it sounded interesting, and it helps a lot of kids,” she says.
