+ Sanctuary kicks off feline festival
A team of volunteers from Honor Sanctuary Animal Rescue this weekend launched the Fall Festival of Felines, a kitten adoption event.

Starting Sept. 11, the Ranch, 5401 Lorraine Road in Lakewood Ranch, will be open from noon to 4 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays, through the fall season. Kittens also will be available for adoption at that location by appointment during the remainder of the week.

Adoption fees are $35 for one kitten, $45 for two kittens and $55 for three kittens. The fee includes spay/neuter, all vaccines, a microchip, rabies vaccine and certificate, a carrier and a free goodie bag.

+ Buchanan holds rally in Sarasota
U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan on Sept. 11 hosted a “Taking Our Country Back BBQ Rally” at Robarts Arena in Sarasota.

Key Republican candidates, including Marco Rubio, Rick Scott, Jennifer Carroll, Pam Bondi and Jeff Atwater, among other leaders, were in attendance for the free event.


+ Local attorney to lend hand to service workers
The Manatee County Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division is using a nearly $4,000 grant from The Florida Bar Foundation and The Florida Bar’s Young Lawyers Division to provide free wills for all active first responders in Manatee County.

The first “Wills for Heroes” event will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sept. 17, at the Manatee Judicial Center, 1051 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton. There, 40 local volunteer attorneys will prepare wills for eligible first responders and their spouses.
