Store Around the Corner: Wet Noses

Wet Noses boutique in St. Armands Circle is not your typical pet shop. From the bakery full of gourmet dog treats that look delicious enough to be mistaken for human-food to a wine section featuring the store’s own private label, Wet Noses has everything a pet owner could ever want- and more.

“We carry unique gifts for people and pets that you won’t find anywhere else,” says owner Christine Baer.

The dog-friendly store carries organic toys and dog food, jeweled collars, pet carriers, costumes, frozen yogurt treats for dogs and wine (for humans).

Carol Angelotti opened Wet Noses with her daughter in 1996 and sold it to her longtime customer, Christine Baer, two years ago.

“I couldn’t sell it to just anyone,” says Angelotti. “It needed someone who had that same love for animals and for people. Christine said she was interested and the rest is history”

Before becoming the owner of Wet Noses, Baer spent 15 years in the wine business. When she found herself searching for a way to give back to the community, her love of fine wine came into play.

Wet Noses' wine section is the store’s in-house fundraiser, with a portion of the proceeds going to the humane society, guide dogs and animal shelters.

Customers can even name and design their own label picturing their pet or a photo from their vacation to commemorate their trip.

Wet Noses also hosts wine-tastings every Saturday and Sunday during the summer from 12 to 5 p.m.

Whether its browsing the shop or spending some quality time with your pooch at a wine tasting, “It’s a fun place to spend a wonderful afternoon,” says Baer.
