An enthusiastic group of Temple Beth Israel members and guests celebrated Hanukkah Dec. 5, at the temple. A fun feature of the evening was a green screen, in front of which members could pose with a variety of backgrounds that made for an instant souvenir photo.

Dinner included traditional holiday foods, but the potato latkes were served as dessert — not as a main course.

A series of film clips with a Hanukkah theme and some humorous touches was part of the evening’s entertainment. Lighting the menorah candles were Rabbi Jonathan Katz and his wife, Marty. During his remarks, Katz referred to the recent fire in Israel and the loss of lives and destruction of forest trees. Katz’s words prompted members to make pledges to sponsor new trees in Israel.
