Sarasota County officials have allowed the local World Rowing Championships organizing committee to continue operations, per a release from the championships.

The officials noted that Nathan Benderson Park, the site of the event, sustained "minimal damage" from Hurricane Irma.

“The local organizing committee for the 2017 World Rowing Championships would like to thank the Sarasota County Emergency Management Department and all of the local and state officials for their preparation, communication, and mobilization efforts, in keeping the community safe during Hurricane Irma,” said Meredith Scerba, the executive director of the 2017 World Rowing Championships, in the release.

The championships will begin at 7 p.m. on Sept. 23 with the Opening Ceremony. That event is free to the public.
