Longboat Key’s next public works director begins his tenure with the town next week.

In May, Town Manager Dave Bullock hired Isaac Brownman for the job. Brownman worked for Sarasota County for 17 years, most recently as public works director and county engineer.

Brownman left his position with the county in late July. He will begin his new role with the town on Monday, according to current Public Works Director Juan Florensa.

In March, Florensa announced his plan to retire in February 2018.

Florensa has referred to the overlap period between himself and Brownman “essential,” expecting that it will provide for a smooth transition in leadership.

Brownman will start with a yearly salary of $109,000. His salary with the county was $130,062 annually.

Earlier this year, Bullock announced his own plan to retire in January 2018. In July, the Town Commission hired Sarasota County Administrator Tom Harmer as Bullock’s replacement. Harmer will take over as town manager in December.
