You know what they say — if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. Apparently, for Alex, that bit of advice has fallen on deaf ears. Things got saucy this week as he took on Rene DeGuia, franchise owner of the Domino's Pizza on Cattlemen Road and world-renowned competitive speed pizza-maker.

A Filipino immigrant, DeGuia honed his pizza chops at a Domino's restaurant in California. After proving himself the fastest pizza-prepper in the store, he moved on to regional and national competitions, eventually earning a $5,000 cash prize, which he boss then matched, allowing him to open his own franchise in Sarasota.

DeGuia recently let us into his kitchen as he prepared for his final national competition. Does Alex have what it takes? Or will he throw in the apron? See for yourself, and stop in the store to see DeGuia in action.
