Freedom Elementary students dressed as their favorite characters at the Character Dance on Oct. 26. Kids dressed as superheroes, pirates, pumpkins, ghouls and more danced to pop songs and ate snow cones. The PTO sponsored event helps fund school activates and materials. Pre ordered tickets cost $3 a person, while tickets at the door sold for $4.

The fundraiser, titled 'Leis for Strays,' featured a Hawaiian theme, including hula dancers and a Hawaiian drinks. Guests enjoyed hors d'oeuvers and dinner as well as a live and silent auction to benefit the organization.

Longboat Key Club and Resort threw its usual Summer time beach barbecue Sunday, May 26, but since it was Memorial Day weekend, a lot more people donned red, white and blue. There was live music and Key Club served summer staples to the families in attendance: burgers, hot dogs, watermelon - and even red, white and blue chocolate covered strawberries.
