You Observed: Pen Women demonstrate flower arrangements

On March 12, Grand Bay residents got to see a demonstration of Japanese floral design from a member of the Sarasota Pen Women. 

The Sarasota Pen Women, an organization of female artists, musicians, writers, photographers and other artistically inclined women, has had a series of events at Grand Bay on Longboat Key. The event with Polly Curran showing the floral art of Ikebana was the third of four. Curran was assisted by Gwen Lawry from the Sarasota Ikebana club as they created six arrangements in nagire (thrown-in style), moribana (piled-on style) and chabana (used in tea ceremonies). The final arrangement was a special ‘Hana Tsutsumi’ or flower wrapping arrangement which was raffled off to one of the attending guests.
