Readers of the 'Island Beat' column will recall a Nov. 10 item about a group of friends who regularly walk their dogs together on the Key. Since that item appeared, Sally Langer, a 20-year resident, reported, more folks and their furry friends have joined the group.

The Siesta Key Condominium Council met Tuesday, Jan. 17, and dished out awards to the winners of the Siesta Key Holiday Spirit Condominium Lighting Contest. Condominiums were divided into categories according to number of units. Category I was for condominiums containing 101 or more units, category II was for 51 to 100 units and category III was for 50 or fewer units. The first place winners for each category were Siesta Dunes, Beach Haven and Sandpiper Beach Club, respectively.

Island Beat: County officials quickly handle a zoning violation

Thanks to quick action from the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office and Sarasota County staff, a serious zoning violation was halted near Point of Rocks during the New Year's celebration, Siesta Key Association President Catherine Luckner told members during their Jan. 5 regular meeting.
