DID investigates street pavers at Palm and Main

At the Downtown Improvement District meeting July 9, board members discussed the use of thermoplastic pavers instead of brick pavers in repairing four crosswalks at Palm Avenue and Main Street. The current plan would close the intersection for 16 days and cost $57,000. There was interest in discovering whether the thermoplastic option would be both quicker and cheaper.

Two-bedroom home on Casey Key sells for $2,275,000

A home on Casey Key tops all transactions in this week's real estate. Paradise Yacht Club Inc. sold the home at 3917 Casey Key Road to John Briggs III and Leslie Briggs, trustees, of Nokomis, for $2,275,000. Built in 1956, it has two bedrooms, three baths and 2,679 square feet of living area. It previously sold for $2.85 million in 2005.

Children learned about Sarasota K-9 Search and Rescue Wednesday, July 10, at Selby Public Library as part of the summer children's programs. Team Leader of Sarasota K-9 Search & Rescue and co-founder of the organization Pat Abrams brought in her 3-year old search and rescue German shepherd Ana and a 17-week old pup in training Kaleb. Abrams also read a book from her series 'Noah and the Search Dogs.' Children learned what these heroic dogs do and fed them treats. They also made a dog yarn craft.
