Casa del Mar plants seed of excitement on the Key

Bonnie Schneider, of Pelican Harbor, has attended the Casa del Mar cotton plant measuring ceremony for the Guinness World Book of Records two times in the past, and this year brought her visiting son, Chris, daughter-in-law, Norma, and grandson, Sean, to the July 15 ceremony.

Our View: Publix plan fuels optimism

It was good timing for Publix Super Markets Inc. to unveil its redevelopment plans for the Avenue of the Flowers shopping plaza in the middle of the summer. That will allow plenty of time for Longboaters - especially the "carpers" and "cranks" - to digest it.

Cops Corner

'Extreme Couponing': The Longboat Key edition 3:40 p.m. - 6700 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive. Suspicious Circumstance. A man told police that two daily newspapers delivered to a box near his condominium no longer come with extra clip-out coupons and told police he believes that someone has been stealing the coupons and leaving the newspapers inside. The man credited the possible theft to a recent TV series glamorizing the use of coupons.

Sanctuary unit sells for $1,075,000

Steven and Susan Freedman, of Lutz, sold Unit B-704 at 535 Sanctuary Drive in Unit IV of the 186-unit Sanctuary to Melvyn and Eleanor Glickman, 585 Sanctuary Drive, for $1,075,000. Built in 1990, the 2,590-square-foot unit has three bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms. It last sold for $1,425,000 in June 2003.
