Six Cal Ripken Little League at Heritage Harbour teams took to the field for the league's championship games Nov. 19. Champions were crowned in the Rookies, Minors and Majors divisions. The Cubs defeated Rays 12-2 to win the Rookies division title. The Phillies won the Minors division title with a 8-4 victory over the Red Sox while the Rays topped the Yankees 5-2 to capture the Majors division championship.

Lakewood Ranch High junior and team captain Olivia Ortiz captured the Class 3A individual state cross country championship while leading the Lady Mustangs to a third-place finish at the Class 3A state championship Nov. 19 at Little Everglades Steeplechase Ranch in Dade City.

The Lakewood Ranch High football team scored 28 points in the second half and nearly pulled off an improbable upset of the No. 2 team in the nation before eventually falling to Seffner Armwood 35-31 in a Class 6A-Region 2 quarterfinal tonight.
