The Lakewood Ranch High girls soccer team defeated rival Braden River 2-0 in a Class 4A-District 11 match Nov. 28. With the win, the Lady Mustangs improved to 10-0 (6-0, 4A-11).

The Lakewood Ranch High girls soccer team defeated rival Braden River 2-0 in a Class 4A-District 10 match Nov. 28. Talia Falco and Tyler Gordon each scored a goal for the Lady Mustangs. Megan Hardy and Lindsay Martinez were each credited with an assist.

The U.S. Under-17 Men's National Team battled Brazil to a 4-4 draw in the 2012 NIKE International Friendlies Nov. 28, at the Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch. Forward Rubio Rubin scored a pair of goals and also had a pair of assists to lead the way for the U.S. Alan Winn and Ahinga Selemani finished with a goal apiece. Christopher Lima and Corey Baird each had an assist. The U.S. will face Turkey at 5 p.m. Nov. 30 and Portugal at 5 p.m. Dec. 2.

Athlete of the Week: Kristin Zarrella

Lakewood Ranch High senior Kristin Zarrella crossed the finish line in 19:16.64 to finish 19th and pace the Lady Mustangs to a fifth-place finish at the Class 3A Cross-Country Finals Nov. 17, in Tallahassee. Zarrella is preparing for the upcoming track season before moving on to the University of Southern Mississippi, where she will continue her running career.

The Mustangs opened up the tournament with a 4-0 loss to East Lake before defeating Clearwater Central Catholic 3-0 and Tampa King 1-0. Braden River tied Countryside 0-0 before falling to Clearwater 1-0.
