For $2, Tara Elementary students and their families enjoyed face painting, pizza, performances by the school's dance team and other activities at the annual Spring Luau. The proceeds from the seventh fundraiser of its type, which transformed the field behind the East County school into a Hawaiian destination, will go toward supplies for the teachers' classrooms.

Animal lovers gathered April 5 at Nate's Honor Animal Rescue's Adoption Center for the shelter's Spring Carnival. Food vendors, homemade dog treats by girl scouts, a bounce house, other activities took over the grounds at the East County animal rescue. Dollars raised benefited Honor and its animal occupants, to fund supplies to aide shelter volunteers in caring for the dogs and cats.

Members of the Lakewood Ranch Women's Club came together April 2, with gold earrings, purses and other accessories in-hand. The women donated gently-used jewelry and other items to the event, which were available for purchase at discounted prices. Jewelry vendors, such as Heart's Desire, also had jewelry for sale on-site. Proceeds benefited SMART, SOLVE Maternity Homes and Hope Family Services.
