Euphemia Haye evokes eating euphoria

He came during an exceptionally nasty winter in 1977, from Columbus, Ohio. His intent was an extended vacation, but Mark Keckstein is still here. He found not only a home but a much-loved career in the kitchen of Euphemia Haye, on Longboat Key.

'Grandma' pumps iron for circus show (WITH VIDEO)

A little old lady, wearing a baggy, red dress and white bloomers pulled over bulky, yellow socks, shuffles up the sidewalk with a tacky, fringed pocketbook slung over her shoulder. Her plans for the day don't involve typical little-old-lady activities such as getting a permanent or mailing handwritten cards to her nieces and nephews - she's headed to Gold's Gym for an intense workout.

Bijou Cafe celebrates 25 years

In 1986, Ray and D'Arcy Arpke, the proprietors of Euphemia Haye on Longboat Key, told them about a little restaurant named Bijou Cafe that was for sale. It was located in a former Texaco gas station. When the Knaggses saw it, they said, "This is it ... this is perfect."
