Why are you running for election?

Although I was unable to serve our country in the military, I have always believed in serving my community. Public service is one of the highest honors, and I view serving on the Charter Review Board as an opportunity to give back to the people of Sarasota County while helping preserve the principles and freedoms that make our community exceptional.

What qualifies you to be a Charter Review Board member?

I have more that 10 years of experience in commercial insurance, financial planning and analysis (FP&A), and other highly regulated industries where compliance, governance and accountability are essential. That background has taught me the importance of careful review, sound decision-making, and protecting the public's interests.

What makes you the best candidate?

I'm a lifelong Sarasota County resident who believes elected officials should never lose sight of the fact that they are citizens first. We all rise and fall together as a community. My family has served Sarasota for generations, and I care deeply about preserving its history, character, and quality of life. I will always stand for the people and oppose efforts that jeopardize their freedoms or best interests. I consider myself a common-sense Republican who believes government should be practical, accountable, and responsive to the citizens it serves.

What, if anything, needs to be updated or changed in the County Charter? Why?

At this time, I believe the Charter should focus on the fundamentals. The Charter Review Board recently worked to improve grammar, organization, and clarity, and I believe those common-sense housekeeping improvements are important to keeping the Charter understandable and accessible. Looking ahead, I also believe the board needs adequate administrative resources to effectively represent the public. Additionally, I believe Charter Review Board members should be committed to serving their full terms rather than viewing the position as a stepping stone to higher office.

If elected, what will be your top three priorities during your term?

My priorities would be:

  1. Establishing clearly defined annual goals for the charter Review Board.
  2. Consistently executing those priorities through productive meetings and accountability.
  3. Supporting a reasonable increase to the board's operating budget so it can effectively carry out its responsibilities.

The Charter Review Board currently operates with a very limited annual budget. Providing modest additional resources would allow for necessary committee meetings, administrative support, and greater productivity on behalf of Sarasota County residents.

Where do you stand: Should the Charter Review Board be proactive in initiating changes to the charter, or should the board make recommendations based on voter desires and ideas brought to the board?

I view the County Charter as Sarasota County's governing framework — similar in purpose to how the Constitution serves our nation. It should be changed unnecessarily or for political reasons. However, when circumstances genuinely require updates to better protect the rights, interests, and future of Sarasota County residents, the board has a responsibility to thoughtfully evaluate those changes. Any recommendations should remain grounded in the will of the people and the long-term interests of our community.
