Silver dollar pancakes turned into the real deal during last year's pancake breakfast fundraiser hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Longboat Key.

Community members who joined in making the effort a success made it possible for the club to donate $3,910 to Family Promise of Sarasota-Manatee.

Club President Danielle Gladding presented the second of two checks to the nonprofit at the Jan. 8 meeting.

Executive Director Tara Maffei thanked the Kiwanians for their support of Family Promise's mission to end family homelessness. To learn more, visit FamilyPromiseSarasota-Manatee.org.

Longboat Key Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Kim Verreault also appeared as a guest speaker, updating attendees on initiatives including the new Visitors' Guide.
