The Rams rang in the new year with winning ways. Riverview girls soccer sits at 7-2-2 entering 2026, not having lost a match since Nov. 17, 2025. Junior goalkeeper Bronwyn Leggett allowed seven goals across those seven contests. She's surrendered just eight goals total this campaign while making 64 saves for an .888 save percentage, keeping opponents largely at bay. Leggett is the Sarasota Athlete of the Week.

When and why did you start playing soccer?

I started playing soccer when I was 5 or 6. I did a couple of other sports beforehand, but they didn't really stick. Then I started playing soccer and it just felt good.

After all these years, what's driven you to stick with the sport?

I've just been pretty decent at it, and I think it's a good challenge — especially for my position. It's really fun, I love playing and I don't see myself playing a different sport.

What has been the highlight of your career so far and why was it so memorable?

Playing internationally. I went to England last year in March (with Iconz Elite), and I played a bunch of pretty good teams. We played Chelsea (F.C.) and Everton (F.C.).

Entering your junior season here, what were your goals personally and for the team?

My personal goals were to balance school and soccer the best I can, and just get better. For the team, it's trying to (become three-time) district champs and then hopefully move on in regionals.

How have you tried to improve your game and become a better goalkeeper this season?

I'm trying to work on different styles of distribution. I've been trying to work on my sidewinder kick, diving, iBalls (smart balls with tracking sensors), top-hand saves and penalty kicks.

The Rams have won six matches in a row entering the new year, why has this group been so successful lately?

We all mesh together pretty well and everyone's equally as dedicated. Everyone on the team has a reason to play, and it definitely shows on the field.

When you're not playing soccer, how do you spend your free time?

I like to go to the beach a lot. I like to draw, and I used to play the trumpet. Mostly just homework — I have a lot of homework this year.

What's one quote or piece of advice that you've always carried with you?

Every time I dive and parry the ball, I think to myself, "I should have caught it," so I always try my best to have good hands and catch the ball.

If you could meet any professional athlete, who would it be and why?

Mary Earps. She (was) a goalkeeper for England (but retired from international soccer in May 2025). She's just really good on and off the field. I just admire her.

Finish this sentence. Bronwyn Leggett is...

Determined.
