Kianna Ferrazzani is currently training for a marathon, but she thought the Education Foundation's Ringling Bridge Run would offer a way to prepare.Â
She came in as first place overall female winner during the 10K race at the event, which was held April 26.
"There's a lot of really competitive runners today, and a lot of fast women that ran today, which was great," she said. "I think it's great to see people who respect the sport and people who do train really hard to make (personal records) or whatever goal they're trying to reach."
The event also offered a 5K, which, like the 10K, started and ended at The Bay while crossing over the John Ringling Causeway, as well as a family fun run.
Ferrazzani said she also appreciated the event's cause, with its mission of raising funds for education and making it more accessible to "children and people who need advocates" and those who need support.
Jennifer Vigne, president and CEO of the foundation, said about 1,300 people turned out for the event, the largest ever participation across the three years it has been held, also noting the participation of multiple local schools.Â
She said the goal for next year's race is to raise participation to 2,000.
Funds go toward the foundation's causes, including providing teachers with grants and supporting students with workshops, mentoring and personalized coaching.Â
"It is very humbling when you see how much our community cares about students and teachers, and you see it up close and personal, and being able to just do it all together collectively is what makes it so special," she said.
