Police officers and sheriff’s deputies in Sarasota are planning to again take part in annual torch run through the county in advance of Florida’s Special Olympics.
On April 17, Sheriff’s Office members, alongside Special Olympics athletes, will embark on the run starting at Gulf Gate Pavilion at 8 a.m., proceeding north along U.S. 41 until it ends at Bay Plaza on Bay Road.
On April 24, officers from the Sarasota Police Department will carry the torch through the city from Bay Plaza north.
Manatee County held its own Torch Run event in Bradenton in March.
Motorists are advised to expect potential traffic delays on the mornings of the run, police advise.
The Special Olympics Florida State Summer Games are scheduled for May 15 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports near Orlando.
