Armed man shot in Sarasota neighborhood

For the second time in two weeks, a deputy responding to a report of a man intending harm to themselves fired at the armed person. In the most recent case, which took place around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, the armed man was killed.

In a news release on the incident, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office reported no deputies were injured.

The Sheriff’s Office said the responding deputies arrived in the 6200 block of Cardigan Circle, a residential area near the intersection of Interstate 75 and Clark Road, and found a man armed with a pistol. The confrontation between the man and law enforcement ended with the suspect being shot.

The incident is under investigation.

On Nov. 4, under similar circumstances in a Palmer Ranch apartment complex, a man with a knife was shot and wounded.
