It might not feel like it just yet (especially because it’s still as hot as can be), but winter is right around the corner.

And that means Thanksgiving, Christmas and time off from school are on the way too, so you might be going on vacation — and soon.

If you don’t have the right kind of traveling bags, or if you’re just in the mood to pick out something new, this is a good time to look. We talked to local retailers to get an idea of the new, popular travel bags and accessories on sale right now. Some are large, some are small, but all are portable.

Crowder’s Gadgets and Gifts

2401 Lakewood Ranch Blvd.

The staff at Crowder’s Gifts and Gadgets is particularly excited for its Vera Bradley collection of backpacks, rolling bags and travel blankets. The rolling work bag and small spinner in its Iconic series have a winter pattern that might brighten up that trip to the airport. At $100, the travel duffel is a good alternative as well. If it’s a personal carry-on you’re hoping to bring, the red campus backpack might turn some heads. Once you have everything you need, and you’re on the plane, the travel blankets aren’t a bad idea either.

Wish on Main

8141 Lakewood Main St.

If bringing something a little flashier for your travels is more your speed, Wish on Main has recently added a number of glamorous items to its inventory.

A particular highlight is the BSwanky bag series, which are bags that can be converted into backpacks if you’re on the go (which, presumably, you are). The company’s website emphasizes that the bags are created by “local female artisans.” What’s more is that they’re made right here in Sarasota.

And if you’re unsure on what kind of design to go for, the Wish on Main staff strongly recommends you go for animal print. It’s in vogue this year, after all. The Consuela series has tool bags, train cases and dome cosmetic pieces that are great for a person on the go.
