Update: Town officials this afternoon announced the precautionary boil-water notice, which had been in effect since early Sunday, has been lifted.

Previous story: Following a pipe break near the intersection of Gulf of Mexico Drive and General Harris Street on Saturday night, town officials issued a precautionary boil-water advisory for people living nearby.

Water service in Hide Away Bay, and on Lyons Lane, General Harris Street, Marbury Lane, Norton Street and Penfield Street was cut off following the 9:40 p.m. incident. The town said the boil-water advisory will continue until test results indicate the water is safe to use. Repairs were made by Sunday morning.

The town released this statement: "Residents are advised that all water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes must be boiled.  A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient.  As an alternative, bottled water may be used.  Town staff will provide notification when test results indicate lifting the boil water status and when resident may resume normal water usage. We apologize for any inconvenience this issue may cause. If you have any questions after normal business hours please contact Longboat Key at 941-316-1977.  Otherwise, you may contact Public Works at 941-316-1988 during normal business hours.''
