Indigo resident Tom Headley (left) had a personal reason for helping to organize the Indigo CREW (Cancer Research Everybody Wins) fundraiser Oct. 6 at Naughty Monk Brewery in Lakewood Ranch.

"My wife, Pat, was diagnosed with breast cancer at the end of January," Headley said. "She just finished her treatments in July. I will be running in honor of her."

Headley will be running in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer race Oct. 20 at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota as part of team CREW, which earned $2,769.46 at Naughty Monk. Susan Halsey of Naughty Monk and Indigo's Tami Prince were driving forces behind the fundraiser.

Heritage Harbour’s Toni Kennedy, who entertains children with her puppet, Little Chick, and produces preschool music as Miss Toni & the Macaroni Band, didn't immediately recognize one of her former musicians without the music.

She was performing at the Guitar Center's Kids Music Day celebration at University Town Center when Allen Litchfield came up to speak to her as Kennedy's song '"It's Cleanup Time," played in the background.

"He said, 'That's me playing the harmonica on that song that's playing,'" Kennedy said. "I grabbed him and hugged him. It was a real full circle moment."

Litchfield, who was a high school student at the time, recorded the song with Kennedy eight years ago.
