Alaina Ray, Longboat Key’s Planning, Zoning and Building director, has resigned her position for new job in Loudon County, Virginia.

In an email to town leaders and staff members, Town Manager Dave Bullock said her last day would be Oct. 6, and that a search for her replacement would begin soon.

Ray, a former planner with the town, served in an interim director for three months in late 2013 before she was elevated to the permanent position in January 2014.

Ray, 51, was instrumental in guiding the town’s Urban Land Institute process, as well as reviewing applications such as the Longboat Key Hilton Beachfront Resort, which led to the opening of the Zota Beach Resort earlier this summer.

Loudon County is a suburb of Washington, D.C., west of the nation’s capital.
