One of Sarasota’s most beloved philanthropists was honored on March 21 at Michael’s On East.

The Women’s Resource Center Annual Renaissance Legacy Luncheon is a fundraiser for the WRC that always honors one outstanding community member, and this year the recognition went to the woman who has supported the WRC’s scholarship programs for more than 30 years.

In the past three decades, Schoenbaum has given $150,000 to the Women’s Resource Center Scholarship Fund, and as a result, 150 scholarships have been given to local women in order to further their educations.

After some mingling, guests at this year’s luncheon were welcomed by emcee Hayley Wielgus before opening remarks by WRC Board Chair Suzanne Fugate and WRC President and CEO Ashley Brown. They then enjoyed their lunch before the tribute to Schoenbaum, which was carried out by Co-Chairwomen Dr. Mona Jain and Dr. Anila Jain.

Event-goers also heard from Betty Schoenbaum Scholarship Recipient Ruthann Close and WRC client Destiney Swartz.
