There were many unique scents in the air April 19 at the final Lunch in the Gardens event of the season.
The third luncheon/lecture, themed “Scents of the French Riviera,” attracted a throng of (mostly) women to Michael’s on the Bay at Selby Gardens, most of whom were decked out in their best floral and/or pastel-colored attire.
Guests enjoyed a Michael’s On East meal while listening to speaker Ashley Wilberding Balavoine, a perfumer with Firmenich — the largest privately-owned fragrance company in the world. Wilberding Balavoine spoke about the famous perfume heritage of the French Riviera, an area that many of Selby’s events have focused on due to the gardens’ latest exhibit, Marc Chagall, Flowers and the French Riviera: The Color of Dreams.
Eventgoers also attempted to make their own fragrances at their tables and had the chance to bid on a one-of-a-kind, gold and pearl brooch handmade by Co-Chairwoman Nikki Sedacca, which was eventually sold for $3,000.
