Palm Aire’s Nancy Kornberger has battled diabetes since she was 21.

Twenty-one years later, she’s still fighting, but with a fanbase behind her, this year as team captain of Palm Aire Golf and Country’s team for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s One Walk fundraiser. About 30 Palm Aire residents joined her in the cause to raise money to fight and research Type 1 diabetes.

“Our club’s slogan is ‘Members make a difference,’ and we all support each other’s charities,” Kornberger said. “We’re a family. It’s important to raise awareness in the community about this.”

Kornberger’s team joined hundreds of other walkers from around the area in the 5K and one-mile walk at Main Street at Lakewood Ranch.

The event, which featured food and drink, live music and other festivities, raised more than $218,000 for the cause.
