Braden River falls in rematch against Venice

The Pirates could not stop the Indians' ground game, again.

Braden River's chance at redemption came up short.

The Pirates lost to Venice 64-42 Friday night. The Indians are the only team to beat Braden River this season, and they have now done it twice.

Like the first game, Braden River struggled to slow the Indians' rushing attack. Venice running back Matthew "Speedy" Laroche ran for 281 yards and three touchdowns, while quarterback Bryce Carpenter racked up 267 rushing yards and tied the school record with six touchdowns.

When the Pirates managed to put Venice in unfavorable situations, they failed to get off the field. Venice converted 12 of 16 third downs, and went 3-for-4 on fourth down.

After the game, Curt Bradley gave credit to the Indians' offensive line, saying it did a good job of getting to the second level of the defense and opening holes for Venice's weapons.

Braden River senior running back Raymond Thomas made the most of his last game as a Pirate. Thomas ran for 113 yards and three touchdowns on just 13 carries. Thomas also caught 3 passes for 65 yards.
