ODA wins district tennis crowns

The ODA boys and girls tennis teams will host the first-round regional matches April 5.

The Out-of-Door Academy boys and girls tennis teams both walked off the court with district titles to their credit after winning the Class 1A-District 9 tournament this afternoon. 

The Thunder girls edged past St. Stephen's 15-13 while the boys topped Shorecrest 17-11. 

ODA's Connor Krug (No. 3), Matt Jones (No. 4) and Vaugh Garcia (No. 5) all won individual singles titles. Krug then teamed up with his twin brother, Jake, to win the No. 2 doubles crown. 

Cardinal Mooney's Chen He Li defeated Jake Krug, 6-0, 6-0, to win the No. 2 singles title. 

On the girls side, ODA senior M'Balia Bangoura defended her No. 1 singles title, defeating Cardinal Mooney's Tara Berg 6-0, 6-2. As the No. 1 singles district champion, Bangoura earned an automatic berth in this year's Class 1A state tournament. 

Bangoura later teamed up with Sydney Sforzo to win the No. 1 doubles title and earn a state tournament berth. Sforzo also won the No. 2 singles district title. 

Cardinal Mooney's Lexi Melone won the No. 5 singles title. 

As the district champion, ODA will host the first-round regional matches April 5. The boys will play Spring Hill Bishop McLaughlin while the girls will take on Seffner Christian.
