The commencement ceremony had an early for Sarasota High School as thunder began to rumble.

Families and friends were still packing the stands of Charlie Cleland Stadium at Ihrig Field Friday, June 3 when graduates began marching to "Pomp and Circumstance." Principal Jeff Hradek made the announcement that the ceremony would be a condensed version eliminating student speakers to be able to present graduates with their diplomas before the storm arrived.

Somewhere around the letter "R" of the line up of graduates rain started to fall bringing a halt to the ceremony. Some parents stayed to watch students receive diplomas in the rain while other fled toward the gymnasium where they were reunited with graduates.

The ceremony resumed after the rain cleared allowing students to cross the stage and for the speakers to give their presentations.
