As Sarasota Military Academy cadets received their diplomas and before they stepped off the stage they passed through an iron gate Tuesday evening at Robarts Arena.

The iron gate at the foot of the stage is a symbol of leaving the protection of strength and integrity at SMA before embarking on adulthood for graduates.

Sarasota Military Academy Board Chairman retired Lt. Gen. Howard Crowell took a moment to introduce cadets to some of the founders of Sarasota Military Academy and to bid them farewell.

“The pebble in the pond has ripples that go on forever,” Crowell said. “Soar, go forth, conquer, good luck and Godspeed.”
