Crewe of De Soto conquers Bashaw Elementary

Students tried to collect as many necklaces as possible.

It’s uncommon to see a Spanish ship roll aground at an elementary school.

For one East County school, however, today was the stuff of legend. The conquistadors of the Crewe of De Soto visited William H. Bashaw Elementary, talked with students about the history of Hernando de Soto and, of course, handed out bead necklaces.

But first, they had to make sure the students knew they were dressed as conquistadors — not pirates.
