Sarasota police continue search for fugitive

A fugitive was loose near downtown Sarasota wearing one handcuff this afternoon, as Sarasota Police nearly apprehended 21-year-old Demetrius Downer.

Officers placed Sarasota School of Arts and Science and several streets within the Rosemary District on lockdown around 1 p.m. Downer was last seen near the intersection of 12th Avenue and Florida Avenue, according to a news release.

Sarasota Police have advised anyone who sees Downer to immediately call 911.

Downer is currently wanted for armed robbery and escape, and has been known to keep a firearm in his backpack, according to the release.
