Former Sarasota County Commissioner Jon Thaxton will fill the position of senior vice president for community investment at Gulf Coast Community Foundation.

The position became available when Mark Pritchett was announced as the new president and CEO on Sept. 28.  The promotion is a logical transition for Thaxton who has been with the GCCF as the director of community investment since September of 2012.

As Director of Community Investment, Thaxton worked with nonprofit organizations, donors and community partners to determine where to invest Gulf Coast grants and resources. Among the efforts he led was the Gulf Coast’s Feeding Hungry Families initiative.

Thaxton is known as being a champion for the environment in Sarasota County as well as serving as a Sarasota County Commissioner for 12 years. As a commissioner his appointments included the Metropolitan Planning Organization, Manasota Water Supply Authority, and National Association of Counties Growth and Land Use Committee.
